Karen Hawkins is one of my all time favorite authors. I have been reading her books for years and have every single paperback book of hers till I received my first Nook. Her Historical Romances have always been exceptional and in this story she continues her mastery of historical writing skills with Buchanan and Tatiana's story.Buchanan is portrayed as a bitter physically damaged man. The author works his leg injury and his recovery into the story line creating a believable character where you can feel his pain and why he chooses to be alone rather that seeking out company. The timing of his awareness of wanting Tatiana and wanting to not be alone is not too rushed. I love that he is honorable and willing to do the right things for Tatiana.
Since I have not read the previous books I can't judge Royal princess Tatiana's character based on past knowledge. From this book though several things stood out that I would love to have known more detail about. For instance, what happened to all the servants she was traveling with? If her family was truly Royal why did they send her out unattended by guards. That being said, I love how she was smart and forward thinking. I enjoyed how her character became humble understanding the value of her servants and how hard they worked. As her character was tried by circumstances she learned to take joy in learning how to live and take care of herself.
The ending was handled in a surprising manner. I loved the ending but was intrigued with how her cousin Prince Nik handled everything. I wish I could of been there while that conversation was going on and that it was expanded upon for the reader. Since I have read her other series this ending does make sense based on her other series character developments.
I give this 4 stars and though it can be read as a standalone I am a firm believer that it's best to start at the being of any series.

The Princess Wore Plaid A Novella The Oxenburg Princes edition by Karen Hawkins Romance eBooks Reviews
Cute, engaging, and while it did not make me turn on the at 2 AM, (yes some do) it was a wonderful book and I needed my sleep anyway....It was a great change from the more balls and clothing, the characters were great and the story worth reading, and well written and Karen Hawkins is now on my short list for reading, along with Beaton, Ridley, well you get the idea. Try it, unless you are addicted to clothing and balls you should like it as well.
Karen Hawkins’ The Princess Wore Plaid 2.5 in the great Oxenburg series is a great spring day read. It has a great beauty meets beast spin to it. Tatiana is one of the Romanovin family from the series but in a carriage accident she forgets she is a princess and has to work as a barmaid. Lord Buchan was injured in a battle with the French, he is now like a surly wounded animal. Tatiana is not afraid nor does she treat him like a invalid. Soon they start spending more time together and learn to love. This is a wonderful quick read and I can’t wait for the next in this series.
This is a simple love story that is warm and lovely and fuzzy, without being saccharine sweet. Yes, Buchan has his issues and yes Tatiana has to be careful because of who she is, but cast those all aside, and this story focuses solely on them and their love. It leaves a positive feeling in my heart upon reading and after finishing. Ms Hawkins gave hints of the intrigue that is following the royalties from Oxenburg (you would know the different levels of gravity if you read the series). So I enjoyed it much that she has placed much focus on the feelings between these two, more than any other elements. Love it. And yes, looking very much forward to read about Nik..
Due to an accident Princess Tatiana has a memory loss and becomes lost. Once she finds her way to the Red Lion the only way to survive is to be a scullery maid. This is when she meets the angry at the world Lord Buchan. He hides himself from the world due to injuries he received with a battle with the French Navy. Lord Buchan visits the Red Lion every Friday for the tasty dishes the innkeepers wife makes. He meets Tatiana and comes to believe her story of being a Lost Princess. In the end they fall in love and Princess Tatiana disappears to become Lady Buchan. I have read and loved each of Karen Hawkins books. She never disappoints.
Another great story from Karen Hawkins. I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
We meet the Oxenburg princes cousin, Princess Tatiana Romanovin. Tatiana has had a privileged upbringing. When her carriage overturns, she is thrown and finds herself at an inn in the wilds of Scotland. In comes Lord Buchan, a man scarred both in body and spirit. They are drawn to each other from the first glance.
Karen spins a wonderful web of privilege that has turned around. Showing a princess turned maid and how it affected her. I loved it and can't wait to read Nic's book.
This novella by Hawkins is a gem. Any reader of saucy, yet poignant, historical romance will enjoy this charming Cinderella tale in her Princes of Oxenburg series. Can Lord Buchan overcome his pride and Tatiana Romanovin surrender her heart to this tormented man on their way to a happily-ever-after?
Coddled by Mr. and Mrs. Drummond in a special dining room at the Red Lion, severely injured Lord Buchan treats himself weekly to her delicious cooking. His leg is heavily scarred from a battle during his service in the French Navy. His fiancé abandoned him, not wanting to deal with his situation. One particular week, he notices a new serving girl whose bearing is unlike that of a common maid. He queries the Drummonds who say she claims to be a princess. On further acquaintance, he begins to believe her and realizes he will never find a place in her world if she is found. He comes out of hiding and becomes attracted to the young miss. Buchan is startled when Tatiana returns his regard. Not wanting his heart broken again, he tries to distance himself from her. He feels she will want to leave Scotland and return to her true place as a princess in the court at Oxenburg.
