Luna & Alook’s Funny food book is about some of the different cuisines that you can try around the world. Alook wants to eat everything, whether it is naughty, sensible, spicy or culturally different as in garden weeds. But his new sophisticated South American friend Luna tries to educate and show Alook about the importance of eating nutritious fruits, vegetables and packing healthy lunches. This book is about the culinary adventures of these two fun loving birds.
This book comes with two songs; one has a jazzy element to it and the other hip hop. This showcases how the same lyrics of a song can be sung two different ways. It is also a great rhyming book for toddlers and a perfect early reader book. Rhyming teaches children who are learning to read about the patterns and structures in both spoken and written words. Rhyming and songs expose children to the rhythm of language, which helps them read with some animation in their voice instead of just a monotone voice. Rhyming also helps children learn about word families such as fun and sun, or wide and stride and so on. For instance, if your child is learning to spell, if they can spell mood, they can spell food and if they can spell rice they can spell spice.

If you want to hold a child’s attention, read with inflection and animation, and they will sit glued to your voice. This book has been fun to read. It promotes healthy eating and eating a variety of traditional foods from cultures around the world. It even talks about food that is prepared or just fruits and vegetables grown in other countries. The illustrations just pop off the page. Characters find food in different locations such as restaurants and street markets, or they eat with friends in different dining rooms. There are different aspects of food that your child will find or you can point out. The rhyming is fun and will continue to bring more interest with each reading.
This is a cute and colorful kids book that I would recommend to anybody looking for something different in the world of books for kids.
What a fun book and beautiful illustrations. This is a fun sit-together book for parents and kids to read (but not at bedtime--you will want to eat after you read it). In fact, I'm now inspired to go make a cheese fondue! Bravo!
Kimberley Kleczka always does a great job with her books. I'm always so impressed by all of the extras that she provides in these books too, with the sing alongs and the read-along videos. This one is no different.
I also really love the multicultural element to this book. It really teaches good lessons about diversity. It also helped my child to think about trying some different foods, which is probably a wonder of the world level feat. Seriously. Pizza...forver.
Anyways, cute illustrations that are really colorful and vibrant! I can't say enough really.
